Holden donates cars in the name of safety

During the development and launch of any new model, Holden produces scores of engineering evaluation vehicles that you might think simply end up on the scrap heap once the new model is launched.

But in its efforts to continually improve road safety, Holden has found a perfect means of recycling these vehicles.

That is, to donate them to the Australiasian Road Rescue Organisation (ARRO) to be cut up, stripped open and prised apart by fire services, SES and ambulance service members at its annual training event.

Holden Colorado put to work by Landcare

Earlier this month, the Landcare team in Queensland put their Colorado support vehicle to work, assisting with flood recovery activities along stretches of the Lockyer Creek damaged during the devastating floods in January last year.

This included a site at Lowood near O'Reilly's weir at the confluence of the Lockyer Creek and the Brisbane River.

Simon Warner, CEO of SEQ Catchments said: "The partnership with Holden and Landcare Australia has brought about benefits that will be widely felt across the whole community, with stretches of banks now stabilised and revegetated, increasing its resilience from further damage and loss of land."
